Getting a New Puppy? Make Sure You Buy These 2 Things Before You Bring It Home

Blog

If you are getting a new puppy you need to make sure you are ready for it. This will help make the transition of your puppy and your family go much easier. Below are two things you should start with.

1. Pet Crate

In the beginning, your new puppy will not be potty trained and it will take time for it to be. Because of this, you should not leave the puppy alone in the house free while you are gone. Your puppy may also chew on many things and cause a lot of damage if left alone. One thing you can do is to purchase a pet crate. This not only prevents the puppy from roaming but also helps the puppy feel secure. This is because in many cases dogs are a little scared and nervous when they first come to their new home. Having a place that they can call their own can help with this.

Make sure the crate is large enough for the puppy to stand up and move around in. Consider if you want to continue using a crate in the future so you will purchase one that will be large enough for it when the puppy is an adult size. Place the crate near you at night so the puppy will not get scared, such as next to your bed. Pet crates are made with a variety of materials. One common type is metal, but you will also find them made of wood or plastic.

2. Flat Cushioned Mat

A crate has a hard bottom and you want to make it as comfortable for your puppy as you can. One way to do this is to purchase a flat cushioned mat. This mat is placed on the bottom of the crate to make it much more comfortable for the puppy to lay on.

Flat cushioned mats are made with a variety of materials. One common material is fleece, as this is soft and comfortable. Some mats are made with faux fur and mats that are heated. You can find mats that are completely waterproof in case your puppy has an accident. Cushioned mats can also be used outside of the crate as a place for your puppy to lay and sleep on. Because of this consider purchasing two mats.

There are many more things you need to purchase, such as dog food, dog toys, and more. For more assistance, contact companies that sell medium flat-cushioned mats for pets.
